"Today I learned through Google Alerts of a very nice description of our 2008 conference on the blog of a participant. The link to this posting is http://fairytalesandmagicspells.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/mendocino-coast-writers-conference/
Part of my job as a Mendocino Coast Writers Conference committee
member is to analyze conference evaluations. Results for 2008 are now in, and they look great. You told us that a
sense of community was the most important thing you gained from the conference.
As one participant put it: “A feeling of being welcomed whole-heartedly
into this amazing community of writers.” Another said: “Energy—connection—like I had
found my place.” Next in
importance was the quality of the advice you received. You mentioned
encouragement and expert analysis of your writing, insights on craft, respect
for the commitment of writers to their readers and to the work.
We were impressed to learn that the top scorer for how you found
out about our conference was word of mouth. Second and third ranked were the
MCWC website and other web links. As we plan for next year’s 20th
anniversary conference (which is shaping up to be outstanding) we’re thinking
about how best to use these tools to broaden the reach of our marketing. We
welcome your comments and suggestions.
